Random observations, Spring 2016 version

There have been a few pictures recently from this part of the
world. This one fits. General consensus is Mongolia.
Actors are real people, too.
In the final analysis isn't everything made from scratch?
Eight states have actually made it illegal for people to collect solar energy for their homes.
Everything in Southcentral Alaska is about two weeks early, even road rage.
In Oklahoma which ranks at a solid 48th for quality of education in the U.S. the legislature voted to ban advanced placement American history classes because they "send a negative message."
A salmon now costs more than a barrel of oil. Is it time to rearrange our priorities?
What if you or I told the boss we refuse to perform our mandated job? Would we still have that job? Fire the Senate.
And while we're at it, technically isn't everything a real ingredient?
Dominos now has a car designed just for delivering pizza. It has a built-in warming oven. Hey Google, you thought your driverless car was special? This is PIZZA!
Thirty minutes and HOT!
Dennis Rodman endorses Donald Trump. Do we need to say anything more about that?
Of all the Super Bowl commercials that could have made their way into prime time, it had to be puppy monkey baby.
And speaking of Super Bowl, has there ever been a better designed and executed game plan than the one the Broncos used to annihilate the Panthers?
According to one source more Americans have been killed in the past year by toddlers with guns than have been killed by terrorists
Sea World says it has given up whale shows and won't do any more breeding of whales. Then  they had a big opening ceremony for something called Mako. Because, sharks.
The US still has a free market economy, unless you want to buy a  Tesla or generate your own electricity through solar power.
Barack Obama is more popular than Ronald Reagan was at the same times in their second terms.
Apparently there is a worldwide shortage of single malt Scotch.
According to Pornhub.com, the search word used most by Alaskans is stepmom. No, I didn't try it.
Donald Trump says we can pay off the national debt just as soon as we print more money. Sounds legit.
There is an official something for everything.
Mike Ditka, the former NFL tight end, maybe took too many hits to the head. The guy can  barely mumble a complete sentence on television, but he says Barack Obama is the worst president in US history. Here's a test, Mike: name the next five presidents after Ulysses S. Grant in order. ESPN got rid of him after that comment.
There is an official ladder of the NCAA basketball tournament.
Lady Gaga has turned 30.
It finally happened. In  that little slider facebook puts on your page suggesting people you might know, not one person in the whole bunch had any connection to me whatsoever.
Why does facebook think I would be at all interested in Kendra Wilkinson's stretch marks? (I found a picture, but, well, never mind.)
In overtime of the fourth game of the West Semifinals of the NBA playoffs, Stephen Curry played the best five minutes of basketball I have ever seen by an individual. (A record 17 points including three 3-pointers. He only missed one shot in that whole period.)

  2. ...per the free market economy. You also can't have a rain barrel and legally collect water in most states. On my business page (Idaho Magazine, if that isn't too pushy) Facebook put up a noticed today that said CLOSED. We couldn't decide if that meant the magazine had closed, or if there was a problem with our posted hours, which we stated were in MOUNTAIN TIME, and probably the Fb staff isn't. When we removed our hours, it now says we're open, so I guess we'll just be open 24/7 from now on. Missed the stretch marks photo. Sorry about Morley Safer.

Things sports announcers say

"… there's a fearlessment about him …"

"He's got to have the lead if he's going to win this race."

"Kansas has always had the ability to score with the basketball."

"NFL to put computer chips in balls." Oh, that's gotta hurt.

"Now that you're in the finals you have to run the race that's going to get you on the podium."

"It's very important for both sides that they stay on their feet."

This is why you get to hate sportscasters. Kansas beats Texas for the first time since 1938. So the pundits open their segment with the question "let's talk about what went wrong." Wrong? Kansas WON a football game! That's what went RIGHT!

"I brought out the thermostat to show you how cold it is here." Points to a thermometer reading zero in Minneapolis.

"It's tough to win on the road when you turn the ball over." Oh, really? Like you can do all right if you turn the ball over playing at home?

Cliches so imbedded in sportscasters' minds they can't help themselves: "Minnesota fell from the ranks of the undefeated today." What ranks? They were the only undefeated team left.

A good one: A 5'10" player went up and caught a pass off a defensive back over six feet tall. The quote? "He's got some hops."

Best homonym of the day so far: "It's all tied. Alabama 34, Kentucky 3." Oh, Tide.

"Steve Hooker commentates on his Olympic pole vault gold medal." When "comments" just won't do.

"He's certainly capable of the top ten, maybe even higher than that."

"Atlanta is capable of doing what they're doing."

"Biyombo, one of seven kids from the Republic of Congo." In the NBA? In America? In his whole country?

"You can't come out and be aggressive but you can't come out and be unaggressive."

"They're gonna be in every game they play!"

"First you have to get two strikes on the hitter before you get the strikeout."

"The game ended in the final seconds." You have to wonder when the others ended or are they still going on?

How is a team down by one touchdown before the half "totally demoralized?"

"If they score runs they will win."

"I think the matchup is what it is"

After a play a Houston defender was on his knees, his head on the ground and his hand underneath him appeared to clutch a very sensitive part of the male anatomy. He rolled onto his back and quickly removed his hand. (Remember the old Cosby routine "you cannot touch certain parts of your body?") Finally they helped the guy to the sideline and then the replay was shown. In it the guy clearly took a hard knee between his thighs. As this was being shown, one of the announcers says, "It looks like he hurt his shoulder." The other agrees and then they both talk about how serious a shoulder injury can be. Were we watching the same game?

"Somebody is going to be the quarterback or we're going to see a new quarterback."

"If you're gonna play running back in the SEC you're gonna take hits."

"That was a playmaker making a play."
